11×17″ artboard has pen and ink original artwork for cowl of “Incredible 4” #289, published by Marvel April 1986. Artwork is by legendary comic artist John Byrne, known for his long runs on Marvel Comics’ “X-Men” and “Implausible 4,” among other accolades. Cowl options Human Torch standing amid wreckage at heart, in Flame On mode, his teammates – Mister Unbelievable, Invisible Woman and She-Hulk (who was substituting for The Factor) – scattered unconscious at his ft. Johnny reacts w/shock, phrase balloons studying “It Can’t be… Not You?!” This was in response to the difficulty’s villains; Blastaar and Annihilus. Top margin has half sheet acetate overlay hooked up w/masking tape. Overlay has publishing indicia (along w/challenge number/month) and title paste-overs as well as partial outline of Human Torch’s flame. This is noted alongside proper margin’s editorial notice, which reads “Flame Prints Over Brand, Drop Out Red Holding Traces” w/”Remove Pink Traces” famous on acetate. Extra editorial notes along backside margin. Artwork has been signed by Byrne at lower left as well as situation author Jim Shooter at decrease proper margin. Inked title/problem quantity at bottom. Staple holes at high left and middle w/staple at backside proper. Printing labels alongside margins have aged as a result of adhesive and artboard has some scattered aging/handling wear along margins.
