Evaluate: Blue Beetle #9
Writers: Keith Giffen & J. M. DeMatteis
Artist: Scott Kolins
Jaime Reyes has misplaced the Blue Beetle Scarab and the powers it gave him, so he has donned Ted Kord’s old Blue Beetle costume. Now he, Ted, and Teri Magnus hunt down O.M.A.C. to enlist his assist towards Arion.
However, as a substitute of Kevin Kho, O.M.A.C.’s alter-ego, they find themselves speaking to Brother Eye, who’s the entity pulling O.M.A.C.’s strings. Jaime manages to persuade Brother Eye that aiding them against Arion serves his self-interest, so he permits O.M.A.C. to help them.
Jaime then leads the others back to Arion’s lair, where they confront Arion and his army of insect beings. During the battle, Teri finds Physician Fate’s helmet, and tee shirt star wars ado java Nabu instructs her to take the helmet to the Tower of Destiny.
Teri takes the helmet to the Tower at super-velocity and, at Nabu’s instruction, places it on the sleeping Kent Nelson’s head. There’s a flash of light, and Doctor Fate appears before Teri, restored to his basic costume.
Effectively, if there was any lingering doubts, this issue firmly establishes that Teri is the Flash from Justice League 3001. Her full name, Teri Magnus, tee shirt star wars ado java is mentioned, she mentions “transversals” (the tactic of teleportation utilized in that title), plus a point out of her and Tina having come from one other century. In actual fact, I didn’t catch on that Tina was the “Batman” from Justice League 3001 until this challenge.
Nonetheless, this raises some interesting questions. Does their having come from the 31st century imply that Ted is the Blue Beetle from that title having returned from the longer term with them If not, then how did Ted meet up with Teri and Tina
Also, tee shirt star wars ado java it appears that evidently we are another step closer to the return of the Justice Society. The traditional Kent Nelson Physician Fate is again. It’s now obvious that the Doctor Fate we’ve seen to this point on this title was the Helmet of Nabu performing on its own and not using a human host. That explains how Destiny has seemed so cold in his characterization to this point, with no human presence to balance the spirit of Nabu.
And I do know it’s short-term, but I simply love the chance to see Ted’s Blue Beetle costume once more. Plus we get to see Ted again in action as nicely. It’s too bad it’s not Ted within the costume.
It seems that the events of the latest Physician Fate collection is being ignored. It’s exhausting to say how Khalid Nassour’s time as Destiny might be labored in, considering Khalid was the current possessor of the Helmet of Nabu, and that Kent Nelson had additionally appeared in that title in the basic Physician Destiny costume. Hopefully they may clear up Physician Fate’s history because the story progresses.
Jaime Reyes as the Blue Beetle has usually been nicely received, but this title has added an element the title lacked: a way of legacy. Plus, many readers bemoaned the lack of Ted Kord. This title truly offers us the better of each worlds by giving us both Jaime and Ted, and they work collectively better as a team than they do as solo heroes.
